Buying crypto in Germany: verify the route before funding

CryptoGov Research Desk · Sources reviewed 1 November 2026

01 / LOCAL CONTEXT

Locate the entity serving Germany

Begin with the company in the customer agreement, not the app name. BaFin explains that MiCA-authorised providers can offer cross-border services after the appropriate notification. Your provider may therefore have an EU home authority outside Germany. Establish that route before interpreting a German-language website as evidence of local authorisation.

Write down the exact legal name and country, then compare them with the register information. Keep a dated copy beside the terms. If the platform changes your contracting entity during onboarding, restart this check for the new company rather than relying on the first result.

02 / WORKING CHECKLIST

Calculate the euro-to-wallet cost

Choose a specific purchase amount and ask what reaches your wallet after the deposit charge, quoted spread, trading fee and withdrawal fee. Compare that complete journey across providers. A low headline trading fee can coexist with an expensive conversion or withdrawal step.

Confirm whether deposits must come from an account in your name and which payment reference is required. Read the withdrawal limits and supported networks before buying. If the plan is long-term personal custody, establish that the asset can actually leave the platform on the network you intend to use.

03 / WORKING CHECKLIST

Test the operational chain

Secure the account with strong authentication and verify the wallet address independently of messages or advertisements. For a first withdrawal, use a small test where network fees make that practical. Confirm receipt on the intended network before sending the remainder.

Save the euro deposit, execution confirmation and transaction hash as one evidence chain. Record fees and the time of each step. This file will be useful if you later need to explain acquisition history to a bank or prepare tax records; a screenshot of today’s balance cannot reconstruct the purchase.

Sources & scope

Official sources support the jurisdiction context. The working checklists are CryptoGov’s editorial preparation suggestions, not an exhaustive application or filing requirement. Confirm the rules and your circumstances before acting.
