Start from current provider status
Portugal’s national MiCA implementation law allocates responsibilities between Banco de Portugal and CMVM. Before funding an account, establish the contracting entity and its current permission to serve you. A historical virtual-asset registration should not be used as a substitute for the present service record.
Write down the legal name, home country and activity you intend to use. Compare the agreement with official provider information, including the relevant EU route where the company is based elsewhere. A Portuguese-language interface or local marketing campaign does not settle the permission question.
Plan the euro purchase
Choose an amount and calculate the total cost from bank transfer to the asset’s final custody location. Include the spread, trading charge, withdrawal charge and any network fee. Confirm the beneficiary name and required deposit reference before making the transfer.
Decide in advance whether the crypto will remain with the provider or move to a wallet you control. Review supported networks and withdrawal limits. If a token exists on multiple networks, compare the exact asset and receiving network rather than relying on the ticker alone.
Preserve the holding history
Record the acquisition date, quantity, euro cost, fees and source documents. If you later swap or transfer the asset, connect the new transaction to the existing history. Portugal’s tax questions can depend on holding history and conditions, making complete records more useful than a simple account balance.
Secure the account and verify a small first withdrawal where practical. Keep the bank confirmation, order receipt and transaction hash together. Never give a support contact your recovery phrase, and pause if an unsolicited message asks you to move funds to a supposedly mandatory verification wallet.
Sources & scope
Official sources support the jurisdiction context. The working checklists are CryptoGov’s editorial preparation suggestions, not an exhaustive application or filing requirement. Confirm the rules and your circumstances before acting.
