Use the updated documentation framework
Germanyβs Federal Finance Ministry updated its crypto income-tax guidance on 6 March 2025, including cooperation and recordkeeping matters. The publication covers tax reports and valuation questions. It expressly leaves NFTs and liquidity mining outside its scope, so those activities require additional analysis rather than an assumed answer from this document.
Begin your file with the tax year, residence history and whether holdings are personal or connected to a business. List every exchange and wallet used during the period. Record the source of each export and preserve its original format before correcting or combining data.
Reconstruct the acquisition chain
For each asset, connect the original purchase or receipt to later transfers and disposals. Keep dates, quantities, euro values, fees and valuation sources. Label movements between your own wallets so that your working ledger does not automatically mistake them for sales or unexplained acquisitions.
Separate reward receipts, purchases, payments and business invoices into review categories. When an exchange export omits an earlier acquisition, flag the missing evidence and seek the original confirmation. Do not replace an unknown cost with a convenient estimate without recording the basis and obtaining appropriate advice.
Review the report, not just the total
If software generates a tax report, inspect several transactions from source document through classification to final output. Check duplicated imports, time zones, token migrations and missing fees. Reconcile year-end units with actual exchange and wallet balances before accepting the calculated result.
Prepare a short exception list for an adviser: unresolved valuations, unfamiliar tokens, staking arrangements or transactions crossing business and private accounts. Keep the assumptions and corrections alongside the report. A reproducible ledger is more useful than an unexplained tax number, especially when the same records also support a bank enquiry.
Sources & scope
Official sources support the jurisdiction context. The working checklists are CryptoGovβs editorial preparation suggestions, not an exhaustive application or filing requirement. Confirm the rules and your circumstances before acting.
