Verifying a crypto provider serving Portugal

CryptoGov Research Desk Β· Sources reviewed 1 November 2026

01 / LOCAL CONTEXT

Identify the authority and entity

Law 69/2025 allocates Portuguese MiCA responsibilities between Banco de Portugal and CMVM and provides for publication of authorised or eligible providers and their services. Use that current framework when checking a platform’s claim. Read the exact company name in the account agreement first.

For an EU-based provider, identify the home state and relevant cross-border basis. Search the official information directly and preserve the result. A group may use several companies, so the company appearing on a regulatory page must be connected to the company that owes obligations under your contract.

02 / WORKING CHECKLIST

Compare the service, not just the name

Make separate entries for exchange, custody, fiat handling and any optional yield or investment product. Note who performs each activity and which documents describe it. A permission associated with one entity or service does not automatically answer questions about the others.

Check the domain and contact channel against independently obtained information. If the deposit beneficiary is different from the contracting company, request an explanation of that relationship. Record discrepancies and resolve them before transferring funds rather than treating a professional-looking site as sufficient evidence.

03 / WORKING CHECKLIST

Create a dated decision record

Store the terms, register evidence, withdrawal rules and complaint route together. Add the date and the intended activity to your file. This provides a practical baseline for checking later changes to the account, especially when a platform transfers customers between entities.

Review regulator warnings as an additional check, while recognising that the absence of a warning is not approval. If a register is temporarily unavailable, delay the conclusion instead of treating a failed search as proof of either authorisation or misconduct. Recheck when reliable information is accessible.

Sources & scope

Official sources support the jurisdiction context. The working checklists are CryptoGov’s editorial preparation suggestions, not an exhaustive application or filing requirement. Confirm the rules and your circumstances before acting.
