Explain source and destination
Banco de Portugal’s published virtual-asset rules discuss risk-based evidence of source and destination, including wallet histories and acquisition records. This is useful context for why a provider may ask for a transaction’s wider history. Confirm the current requirements with the institution handling your proposed activity.
Prepare a concise narrative of the funds: original income or capital, asset purchase, wallet movements and eventual sale. Link each stage to available evidence. A bank statement and an exchange statement are more useful together when their dates, amounts and fee differences can be reconciled.
Describe the actual account use
For a personal account, explain the expected relationship with exchanges and the source of the investment capital. For a company, distinguish operating expenses, treasury holdings and customer funds. Include expected volumes, currencies, countries and the legal names of principal counterparties.
Ask the bank whether the account supports the proposed settlement flows and what documentation it requires. Confirm payment references and beneficiary details with the exchange through a trusted channel. Avoid testing a large transfer before understanding the basic operational requirements on both sides.
Maintain a working evidence pack
Keep a document index with dates, amounts and the event each item supports. Record missing evidence and attempts to retrieve it. If transactions involve your own wallets, preserve public addresses and transaction hashes while keeping recovery phrases and private keys confidential.
Account opening and transaction processing remain subject to the institution’s assessment. A provider’s regulatory status does not guarantee that every bank will support transfers to it. Update the file when activity changes and keep the explanation consistent with business records and any tax analysis prepared for the same holdings.
Sources & scope
Official sources support the jurisdiction context. The working checklists are CryptoGov’s editorial preparation suggestions, not an exhaustive application or filing requirement. Confirm the rules and your circumstances before acting.
