Tax records / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Preparing French crypto tax records beyond one exchange report

CryptoGov Research Desk Β· Sources reviewed 1 November 2026

01 / LOCAL CONTEXT

Define the reporting perimeter

The French tax administration distinguishes private disposals from professional or professional-like activity. Its guidance also addresses declarations for foreign digital-asset accounts. Start by identifying your status, household perimeter, platforms and relevant accounts before choosing which report to produce.

Do not assume a platform-generated profit figure covers the entire filing exercise. List accounts that were opened, used or closed during the relevant period and retain their identifiers. Check the applicable forms and instructions for that tax year rather than reusing an old submission without review.

02 / WORKING CHECKLIST

Record the wider portfolio

The Form 2086 instructions describe a private-disposal calculation involving total portfolio acquisition cost and global portfolio value at the disposal. This makes records across wallets and platforms important. An isolated exchange ledger may omit assets held elsewhere that affect the calculation.

Build a timeline of potentially relevant disposals, with the euro proceeds, fees, holdings and valuation sources at each point. Identify swaps, payments for goods and transfers between your own wallets separately. Retain the raw transaction data so an adviser can review classification without relying solely on your summary.

03 / WORKING CHECKLIST

Prepare a reconciled review pack

Reconcile asset quantities across all accounts at the start and end of the period. Investigate duplicated imports and missing transfers before applying tax calculations. For unusual events such as a token migration or reward, save the transaction evidence and describe the economic event in plain language.

Deliver three items for review: the original exports, the working ledger and an exception list. Explain unresolved valuations and missing records explicitly. Keep foreign-account documentation separate from disposal calculations so that completing one task does not create a false impression that all reporting questions have been answered.

Sources & scope

Official sources support the jurisdiction context. The working checklists are CryptoGov’s editorial preparation suggestions, not an exhaustive application or filing requirement. Confirm the rules and your circumstances before acting.
